The Effect of Splanchnic Nerve Resection and Sympathetic Ganglionectomy in a Case of Paroxysmal Hemoglobinuria.

چکیده
Several observers have directed attention to the frequent occurrence of vasomotor disturbances in patients with paroxysmal hemoglobinuria, and a few (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) have suggested that these disturbances are of importance in the pathogenesis of the disease. The purpose of this communication is to present observations on a patient with paroxysmal hemoglobinuria which demonstrate that the sympathetic nervous system played a significant, although not the primary, r6le in the production of the attacks.

Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH) is a rare hematologic disorder that manifests with hemolytic anemia, thrombosis, and peripheral blood cytopenias.Acute abdominal pain is one of the PNH clinical manifestations due to venous thrombosis of intra-abdominal sites including hepatic, portal, mesenteric, and splenic veins.Eculizumaband allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT) arethe only w...
متن کاملSplanchnic sympathetic nerves in the development of mild DOCA-salt hypertension.
We previously reported that mild deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt hypertension develops in the absence of generalized sympathoexcitation. However, sympathetic nervous system activity (SNA) is regionally heterogeneous, so we began to investigate the role of sympathetic nerves to specific regions. Our first study on that possibility revealed no contribution of renal nerves to hypertension ...
متن کاملSplanchnic circulation is a critical neural target in angiotensin II salt hypertension in rats.
Chronic angiotensin II (Ang II) infusion, in rats fed high salt, engages the sympathetic nervous system to increase venomotor tone. The splanchnic sympathetic nervous system is the most important regulator of venous tone, indicating that splanchnic sympathetic nervous system activity may be increased in Ang II salt hypertension. We hypothesized that celiac ganglionectomy (CGx), to selectively d...
متن کاملReversal of genetic salt-sensitive hypertension by targeted sympathetic ablation.
The sympathetic nervous system plays an important role in some forms of human hypertension as well as the Dahl salt-sensitive rat model of hypertension; however, the sympathetic targets involved remain unclear. To address this, we examined the role of the renal and splanchnic sympathetic nerves in Dahl hypertension by performing sham surgery (n=10) or targeted sympathetic ablation of the renal ...
متن کاملVagal afferents are essential for maximal resection-induced intestinal adaptive growth in orally fed rats.
Small bowel resection stimulates intestinal adaptive growth by a neuroendocrine process thought to involve both sympathetic and parasympathetic innervation and enterotrophic hormones such as glucagon-like peptide-2 (GLP-2). We investigated whether capsaicin-sensitive vagal afferent neurons are essential for maximal resection-induced intestinal growth. Rats received systemic or perivagal capsaic...
